Our recent history
In July 2016 we leased an unoccupied presbytery in South Leeds from the Diocese of Leeds which could accommodate 6 female asylum seekers.
We set up a House Committee, chaired by a Trustee, to ensure residents had an induction; and the practical arrangements for running of the house were in place.
In July 2019 we leased a second house in Harehills, Leeds, which was purchased by Catholic Care – a diocesan charity – so that St Monica’s could offer 4 additional places for asylum seekers. Then, in May 2023, we vacated the Beeston house and moved to a presbitary in Armley which, after complete refurbishment, now has quality accommodation for up to seven residents.
Between 2016 and end of January 2026 we have provided housing support for 135 women, amounting to 27,551 days of accommodation. Our occupancy rate is above 88%.
